JOHOR BARU: The police have arrested a Datuk who had openly claimed to be a member of Geng 24 Kulai in a viral video.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said that the 52-year-old man was arrested in Kulai around 11am on Friday (Oct 11).
“The suspect had openly admitted to be a gang member from the group. His expose which went viral on a video clip also showed the suspect openly throw a challenge to anyone that is brave enough to go against him, including those from Singapore, ” he said in a statement here on Saturday (Oct 12).
Comm Huzir also said the Datuk would be released on police bail on Saturday after his one-day remand order expires.
“However, the suspect is also wanted by Selangor police to help with investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, ” he said.
He added that the case was being investigated under Section 43 of the Societies Act 1966 and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
It was reported that a total of 32 men who are believed to be members of Geng 24 Kulai were arrested following multiple raids in Johor.
The gang members were detained in a special operation conducted between 12.30am and 5am on Sept 25.
The suspects were in the midst of gambling during the raids and police also seized RM68,000 in cash being used for bets.
