MELAKA (Oct 7): Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) has no plans to seek an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah so far regarding the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly, said its chairman Adly Zahari.

In a statement on his Facebook page on Thursday, Adly said PH's main focus now is to bring the dissolution of the state assembly to the court to dispute the process and facts of the dissolution.

On Wednesday, former Pengkalan Batu assemblyman Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee was reported to have said that 15 former Melaka assemblymen would go to Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday to hand over a memorandum to His Majesty regarding their dissatisfaction over the dissolution of the state assembly.

The Election Commission (EC) received an official notification regarding the dissolution of the 14th Melaka State Legislative Assembly on Oct 4 from Speaker Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh after the Umno-led state government lost its majority in the state legislature.

The state election has to be held within 60 days from the date of dissolution of the state assembly.

Meanwhile, Adly in a separate statement said that the move to bring the issue of dissolution of the state assembly to the court does not mean disputing the authority of Melaka Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.

Instead, he said it is taken to ensure that the relevant parties could review the process and facts, including taking into account the representation of all state assemblymen in determining the decision to dissolve the state assembly.

"In the current [Covid-19] situation, the decision to hold a state election will pose a risk to the health of the people, while a declaration of emergency will cause the state to have limited powers, as well as have a negative impact on the economy and investments," he said.
