IPOH: A housewife was charged in the Ipoh Magistrate's Court on Friday for killing a five-year-old girl two weeks ago.
The accused, Wan Fatimah Zahra Wan Abdullah, 27, nodded in understanding when the charges against her were read before Magistrate S. Punitha.
However, no confession was recorded because the case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charges, the woman is alleged to have intentionally committed murder by causing the death of Iman Adelia Yusullah, 5, in a house in Taman Malcop between 5 and 10 June.
He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for the death penalty if convicted or imprisonment for up to 40 years and if not sentenced to death must be punished with at least 12 lashes.
The court then set August 28 as the date for re-mentioning the case while waiting for the chemical report.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Vachira Wong Rui Fern while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
A sad atmosphere surrounded the outside of the court when the victim's family, including his mother, came from Pahang to follow the proceedings.
According to one of the family members, the victim was handed over to his mother, who is also a good friend of the accused, since two months ago.
The media previously reported that a married couple was arrested at a house in Taman Malcop, on June 10 following the death of their adopted son who had bruises all over his body suspected to have been beaten with a blunt object.
The results of the post-mortem on the victim's body found that the cause of death was due to various injuries caused by blunt objects in addition to lacerations and bruises on the victim's genitals and anus.
