PM Anwar arrived in Saudi Arabia for a three-day official visit

JEDDAH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived here this morning to begin his maiden official visit to the Middle Eastern country after assuming the position of the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia.
The special plane carrying the Prime Minister for the three-day visit landed at the Royal Pavillion, King Abdulaziz Airport at 6.40am local time (11.40am Malaysia time).
Anwar was accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir and Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil on this visit.
Upon arrival, Anwar was greeted by the Governor of Jeddah, Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi Al Saud in an official welcome ceremony with a static parade.
This is also Anwar's first official visit outside ASEAN after being appointed Prime Minister on Nov 24 last year.
Anwar and the delegation are scheduled to perform Umrah first before receiving a courtesy visit from the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha and the Secretary General of the Islamic World League (MWL) Sheikh Dr Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, today.
During this three-day official visit, the prime minister is also scheduled to meet the King of Saudi Arabia King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud who is also the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia at the Al Salam Palace.
In 2022, Saudi Arabia is the largest trading partner, the third largest export destination and the largest source of imports in the West Asian region, with bilateral trade totaling RM45.52 billion (ASD10.26 billion), an increase of 159.2 percent compared to the previous year.
Of that amount, exports to Saudi Arabia increased by 43.8 percent amounting to RM7.28 billion (ASD1.66 billion), while total imports from Saudi Arabia recorded an increase of 205.8 percent amounting to RM38.24 billion (USD8.60 billion).
