SINGAPORE: The remand period for the man accused of attacking actor Kamal Adli has been extended for another seven days to complete a medical examination at the Singapore Institute of Mental Health (IMH).

According to District Judge Terence Tay, IMH requested that the suspect's remand period be extended to complete the investigation.

"I allow the application for you to be remanded for another week at IMH," he said, adding that the next mention of the case will be on April 4.

On March 14, the court ordered that the man be remanded for two weeks to undergo a psychiatric evaluation at the institute.

The 33-year-old replied "yes" when asked if he heard the decision.

He was charged in State Court on March 14 for "suspected involvement in the case of causing injury using a dangerous weapon."

If convicted, assault causing injury with intent using a dangerous weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code carries a prison sentence of up to seven years, fine, caning, or any combination thereof.

On 12 March at about 9.19pm, the Singapore Police Force received a report of a case at 1 Expo Drive where the suspect allegedly attacked a 36-year-old man with a bat.

The police have confiscated the chota to be used as evidence and the investigation is ongoing.

Kamal who was injured had to undergo surgery at a hospital here.

He and his wife Uqasha Senrose are in Singapore for the three-day Hari Raya 2023 Mega Sale starting March 10, at Hall 5A of the Singapore Expo.

According to Uqasha, the incident happened at the end of the event.

Also present in court today was Kamal's lawyer, Jason Wee from Malaysia-based AVW Law Firm.
