The issue of who will be appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister 1 (TKM 1) Pulau Pinang was finally resolved when the Batu Maung State Invitation Council (ADUN) Expert, Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid took the oath of office today.
The people's representatives from the PKR took the oath of the (EXCO) in the presence of the of Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak at 10.20 am witnessed by the Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow.
He, who is also an expert in finance and risk management, officially holds the portfolio for Islamic Religious Development, Education, Higher Education and Community Integration in the country.
Mohamad, 49, from Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 18,939 votes with a majority of 3,221 votes beating the (PN) candidate from BERSATU who got 15,718 votes at the State Election (PRN) last Saturday.
Previously he was Chancellor, International Islamic College of Technology (KITAB) Pulau Pinang, besides having served as Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) International Islamic University Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah (UniSHAMS) and Dean (Academic and International), Universiti Islamic Malaysia (UIM).
Meanwhile, ADUN Datok Keramat from DAP, Jagdeep Singh Deo was appointed by TKM 2 Pulau Pinang.
The four term ADUN who is also a teacher also underscores the responsibilities as EXCO for Human Capital Development, Science and Technology in the country.
The combination of PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) managed to control 29 out of 40 seats at the Penang (DUN) with DAP winning 19 seats in the DUN, PKR won seven and BN won two seats and AMANAH maintaining one chair, namely Bayan Lepas.
The state’s new exco lineup that consist of seven new faces are being sworn in at the Dewan Sri Pinang today.
