KUALA LUMPUR, August 15 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with several leading investors in Putrajaya today to explore strategic investment opportunities across key economic sectors.

Menerusi hantaran di laman Facebook, beliau berkata ia adalah sebagai  ikhtiar untuk merancakkan pertumbuhan ekonomi dan mendukung visi yang terkandung dalam Ekonomi MADANI.

“Kebijakan Ekonomi MADANI adalah sebuah kerangka wahana yang jelas dan komprehensif bagi memungkinkan sebuah tatanan (sistem) ekonomi negara yang mampan dan terangkum sebagai usaha dan upaya kerajaan dalam meningkatkan tahap kesejahteraan seluruh rakyat Malaysia.

“Visi ini menekankan peri penting penyertaan sektor swasta dan pelabur untuk memacu pertumbuhan ekonomi, menggalak daya inovasi dan juga mewujudkan peluang pekerjaan yang berkualiti serta berdampak tinggi,” katanya.

Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, said the meeting was attended by several influential investors at the international level and known for their contribution to economic development and successful companies.

Among them are Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin and B Capital Co-CEO Raj Ganguly, WM Partners Founder Alejandro Weinstein and European Venture Funds Founder Peter Kadas.

Anwar said their presence not only showed confidence in the Unity Government and the country's economic prospects but also proved that Malaysia has attractiveness as an international investment destination.

The Prime Minister said the first meeting of its kind opened an opportunity for him and the investors involved to share views and explore cooperation to achieve the country's economic goals.

"The discussion also touched on opportunities to explore investment in key sectors such as technology and innovation, renewable energy, infrastructure development, tourism and hospitality, and manufacturing," he said.

He said the session also revolved around efforts to foster an environment to encourage foreign direct investment, streamline rules and processes and improve governance in addition to ensuring long-term sustainability.

"The meeting also emphasized the importance of social responsibility and inclusive growth with a commitment to prioritize initiatives that benefit the local community and contribute to the sustainable development agenda," he said.

The Prime Minister said the government's ongoing efforts are to provide an investor-friendly environment that fosters innovation, protects intellectual property and encourages collaboration between the public and private sectors.

"I also open space for investors to identify investment opportunities that are in line with strategic goals while meeting the needs of the community.

"This is the basis for potential cooperation and investment that will provide great economic benefits for Malaysia and its people," he said
