Georgetown: The National Alliance (PN) candidate for the Paya Terubong Constituency Andrew Ooi made two police reports regarding the ballot box not being properly closed.

A report was made at the Jalan Patani Police Station here, this afternoon.

He claimed that the incident happened at two polling centres, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Relau and Dewan Blok 4E in Farlim here.

"I went to SK Relau at about 11.30 this morning and found that one ballot box on Channel 15 was not closed perfectly. It was also not tied with a cable and there was no sticker on the box.

"I asked the Election Commission (SPR) staff to temporarily stop the voting and after that, the Head of the Polling Station (KTM) took the cables and stickers and put them on the box," he said when found after making a police report.

It is understood that 177 ballot papers were in the box when found by Ooi, while 719 voters were registered for the channel.

Commenting further, Ooi said, he then went to the polling station in Farlim at 1.50 in the afternoon and detected the same issue.

"When I asked the EC staff, they told me they forgot to 'tie' the ballot box.

"If this incident happened in one location, there is a possibility that they forgot but I found it in two different locations. Maybe this issue also happened in other places," he added.

Following the incident, Ooi demanded that the EC hold a re-voting for the Dun involved, claiming it was unfair for all candidates to compete.

"I question the EC's credibility in this incident," he said.

Meanwhile, State EC Director Dr Siti Nazariah Abd Halim said the EC will issue a statement on the issue later.
