The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar who will assume the duties of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, wants to focus on stopping corruption.

His Majesty in an interview with The Straits Times Singapore said, a stable government must be consistent with the sustainable policies needed to improve the country's economy.

"From my ancestors, we were great hunters.

"I will make sure that when I go hunting, I bring back good results.

"But when I'm in Kuala Lumpur later, it's a concrete jungle, so what am I hunting for?

"I will hunt down all the corrupt people.

"I will make sure that I bring results (hunting corrupt people)," he said in the exclusive interview.

Sultan Ibrahim also suggested that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) report directly to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, instead of to Parliament as it is now.

"If (MACC) comes to the Agong, it means you are not under the influence of any executive.

"Petronas should not even be under Parliament, report directly to me," he said.

Sultan Ibrahim also suggested that judicial appointments must be separated from the executive body, to ensure that the country's judiciary is truly independent.

"Judges are appointed by the king, on the advice of the Prime Minister after the appointment panel recommends the candidate.

"We (Kings) only got the list (from the Prime Minister's Office) when the Council of Kings was in session.

"Why don't you list the names of qualified candidates (to us) before you appoint?

"We (Kings) are not 'rubber stamps'," he said.
