PETALING JAYA: Staying disciplined and acquiring knowledge are important - these are among a few nuggets of advice given by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The Prime Minister was responding to several questions sent to him earlier on his Instagram account on Friday (Oct 18) via a video titled, "Apa Nak Tanya? Dr Mahathir jawab soalan netizen di Instagram (What do you want to ask? Dr Mahathir answers questions of netizens on Instagram)."

When asked by Instagram user nasmi.akabar on his advice for youths in facing the economy in the next five years, Dr Mahathir said, "I would urge young people to acquire as much knowledge about finance and business as possible.

"(This is) to handle and manage businesses."

On how he deals with negativity, as asked by azzm.azmn, Dr Mahathir replied, "Well, I have to be disciplined. It is wrong to do certain things like overeating, or indulging in wrong pleasure.

"I have to be very disciplined and tell myself that (these wrong things are) not good for me."

On the advice about becoming a leader like himself, Dr Mahathir pointed out a leader "must be willing to face challenges, capable of solving problems, and gain the trust from his/her followers".

Instagram user orang_biasa_je asked what the Malays should do for the country, and Dr Mahathir said that they should love Malaysia more than their own lives.

"If the country progresses, they will progress as well. But if (the people) only progress, and the country regress - they will lose everything," he added.

The clip also sees the Langkawi MP noting that he enjoys reading about leaders, both past and present, who are successful around the world.
