MELBOURNE: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to Australia marks an important symbolic of bilateral relations between Malaysia and the country through various platforms.

This official visit which starts from 4 to 7 March is expected to yield significant results in bilateral agreements, involving memorandums of understanding and joint initiatives that will further strengthen the dynamic partnership between the two countries.

According to the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Australia, Sharrina Abdullah, Malaysia is ready to showcase its diversity in terms of heritage and culture as well as its economic prowess.




"On the one hand, this bilateral relationship provides an opportunity to highlight diverse opportunities for collaboration and partnership between Malaysian and Australian businesses, academic institutions, and cultural organizations.

"The relationship between Malaysia and Australia is strengthened by the continued commitment of both countries and the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) established in 2021.

"This visit also showcases the determination of both countries to increase cooperation in key areas of strategic importance and mutual commitment to deepen diplomatic, economic and cultural relations between Malaysia and Australia," he said in a press conference in conjunction with the Prime Minister's official visit to Melbourne on Sunday. .

During this visit, Anwar will lead the Malaysian delegation to the second Malaysian - Australian Leaders' Annual Meeting (ALM) on 4 March 2024 in Melbourne.

The Prime Minister will also participate in the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit on 5 and 6 March 2024 there.

During the ALM, the two leaders will refine cooperation under the framework of Strategic Comprehensive Cooperation, including in the sectors of trade and investment, education, digital economy, and cyber security.

The ASEAN-Australia Special Summit is organized in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations.

It is an important benchmark in ASEAN-Australia relations, following the establishment of the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021.

The leaders of ASEAN Member States and Australia will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, among others regarding the Palestinian issue.

The two leaders are also scheduled to witness the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving cooperation in higher education, sports, cyber security, and science and technology.

Anwar will then go to Canberra on March 7 to deliver a public lecture at the Australian National University (ANU) and meet Australian Governor General David Hurley.
