BALIK PALAU: DAP will compete in all the incumbent seats in four of the six states in the State Election (PRN) on August 12.

DAP Secretary General Anthony Loke Siew Fook said, in total, the party has 48 seats of which, in Penang, DAP will compete in 19 incumbent seats, Selangor (16), Negeri Sembilan (11) and Kedah (2).

"The number of seats has not changed (big). We only contest in the seats we have won. DAP will contest in all the incumbent seats in the next PRN.

"Regarding the total number of seats, I haven't counted yet, but in Penang there are 19 seats," he said at a press conference after the Driver's License Handover Ceremony under the MyLesen B2 program at the Balik Pulau Driving Training Center here on Saturday.

Apart from Penang, the five states that will hold PRN are Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Penang has 40 state assembly seats and in the 2018 General Election, PH won 37 seats, when Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was still part of PH.

After Bersatu left the PH coalition and two PKR state assembly members were dismissed from the party and later joined PPBM, the four seats, Seberang Jaya, Sungai Acheh, Teluk Bahang and Bertam fell under Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Asked about the list of candidates, he who is also the Minister of Transport said that until now, Central DAP has not received any list of candidates from the state leadership.

"The candidates will be announced later. The list of candidates is not yet available, (we) have not received it from the state level yet. When will it be announced? Anytime before the nomination day.

"I will come back here, in these three weeks, I will often come to Penang in another capacity. Today (Saturday) is only for official duties.

"I am transparent with the media, this time there will be no 'meeting' with the party leadership, I will return to Kuala Lumpur at 4.45pm later," he said.

Previously, the Election Commission (SPR) set the PRN in six states to be held simultaneously on August 12 as voting day while July 29 as candidate nomination day.

Meanwhile, early voting day is on August 8.

The campaigning period is set for 14 days starting after the announcement of candidates running until 11.59pm, 11 August.

In addition, the Electoral Register (DPPR) used is the most recent until the April 2023 Additional Register of Electors which was updated last June 21, involving 9,773,571 voters.
