DOHA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's brief visit to Qatar has successfully generated potential exports of goods and services worth about RM700 million, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Tengku Zafrul said the export commitment was received from various key Qatari industry leaders during a business round table meeting with the Prime Minister earlier today.

"Alhamdulillah, we received a commitment (export) amounting to RM700 million. It shows the confidence of Qatari companies in our products and services.







"In addition, we also see the potential of West Asia, which is a big market for Malaysia that we can explore," said Tengku Zafrul to reporters after the Prime Minister's dinner with the Malaysian diaspora, here, on Monday.

The dinner hosted by the Prime Minister was attended by about 500 Malaysians.

Earlier on Monday, 45 prominent Qatari industry leaders from 36 companies attended the roundtable meeting , representing sectors such as food and food processing, pharmaceuticals, building materials, real estate and construction, education, hospitality and healthcare, finance, aviation, retail/distribution and the digital economy.

During the round table dialogue, Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, reiterated Malaysia's commitment to strengthen bilateral relations with Qatar, particularly in trade and investment.

He also said Malaysia's strong infrastructure system, rule of law, skilled and trainable workforce, disciplined project execution and vibrant business ecosystem make it an attractive destination for investors who wish to make Malaysia their strategic manufacturing or service hub. for the Asian market, to seize new growth opportunities and diversification.

The round table meeting was also attended by Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir.

During the meeting, existing investors and importers also expressed their appreciation for Malaysia's efforts in creating an environment that facilitates investment and business growth.

The discussion underlined the joint commitment of Malaysia and Qatar to explore new areas of cooperation, by leveraging the synergies between the two economies.
