KUALA LUMPUR: In his busy schedule in conjunction with his official visit to Qatar, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took the opportunity to meet the Hamas delegation led by its main leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Doha.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister had the opportunity to express his condolences to Ismail who lost a family member in the brutal bombing of the Zionist regime.
"Besides expressing my condolences for the passing of Ismail's family members who were killed in the brutal bombing of the Zionist regime, I received the latest briefing on the bitter situation in Gaza and Rafah which is getting more and more irritating.
"Since the conflict erupted eight months ago, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have been killed and injured with half of the land of Gaza in permanent destruction, due to the cruelty of the Zionist regime," Anwar said in a post on his social media account on Tuesday.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister was accompanied by Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan while Ismail was accompanied by former chairman Khaled Mashal.
According to Anwar also, in the meeting, he insisted that Malaysia's commitment will continue in an effort to exert pressure so that the attack on Rafah is stopped.
"I affirm that Malaysia will continue to commit to playing its role at the international level to stop the attack on Rafah, while mobilizing more agile efforts to help the victims of the Gaza war, especially in the aspects of humanitarian aid, medicine and education.
"Malaysia appreciates the willingness of Hamas to release prisoners, especially children and women, and to accept the peace plan of the Arab world, the OIC (Organization of Islamic States) and the international community.
"At the same time, Malaysia urges Israel to stop the massacre of Palestinians, release all Palestinian prisoners and agree to a peace plan," said the Prime Minister.
